Peer Support Programs

First Responder Support Network (FRSN)

Provides residential treatment programs and peer support for first responders and their families dealing with PTSD and stress-related conditions. Operates the West Coast Post-Trauma Retreat (WCPR), a six-day residential program combining clinical treatment with peer support.

Badge of Life

National nonprofit dedicated to first responder psychological wellness. Provides training programs, workshops, and resources designed to raise awareness about mental health issues, reduce stigma, and equip first responders with the tools they need to maintain well-being.

LEMHWA Program (DOJ COPS Office)

The Law Enforcement Mental Health and Wellness Act program provides federal grants to help agencies implement peer support networks, mental health education, and wellness resources. Includes best practice guides and model policies for departments of all sizes.

ResponderStrong

Peer support and wellness resources built by and for first responders. Connects responders with trained peer supporters and clinical resources. Focuses on breaking down barriers to seeking help.

CISM Resources

International Critical Incident Stress Foundation (ICISF)

The leading organization for CISM training, certification, and team development. Offers courses for peer support personnel and mental health professionals. Maintains a directory of CISM teams and provides crisis intervention resources.

West Coast Post-Trauma Retreat (WCPR)

Six-day residential program for first responders suffering from PTSD and stress-related conditions linked to their work. Combines clinical treatment with peer support in a retreat setting. Open to law enforcement, fire, EMS, dispatchers, and other emergency personnel.

FRSN Significant Others & Spouses Program

The Significant Others and Spouses (SOS) Program is a residential retreat specifically for spouses and partners of first responders dealing with secondary trauma, relationship stress, and the unique challenges of being married to someone in public safety.

National Police Association

Provides resources, support, and advocacy for law enforcement families. Connects spouses and family members with community resources, support networks, and information about navigating the challenges of law enforcement family life.

Chaplain Services

International Conference of Police Chaplains (ICPC)

The leading organization for law enforcement chaplaincy. Provides training, certification, and networking for chaplains serving police, sheriffs, and public safety agencies. Chaplains offer confidential, non-denominational emotional, moral, and spiritual support.

Federation of Fire Chaplains

Provides chaplain training, certification, and resources for fire service and public safety chaplains. Offers crisis intervention support, line-of-duty death response, and ongoing spiritual care for first responders and their families.

EAP Programs

LEMHWA Resources (DOJ COPS Office)

Department of Justice collection of wellness program guides, model policies, and implementation toolkits for agency-level employee assistance and officer wellness programs. Covers peer support, family resources, suicide prevention, and clinical support.

Police-Mental Health Collaboration Toolkit (BJA)

Bureau of Justice Assistance toolkit helping law enforcement agencies partner with mental health providers. Includes model EAP frameworks, training modules, implementation guides, and evidence-based practices for officer wellness programs.

First Responder Center for Excellence

Research-based resources for first responder behavioral health programs, including EAP integration guides and evidence-based treatment recommendations. Supports agencies in developing and evaluating wellness programs.

Online Communities

Blue H.E.L.P. / 1stHelp

Searchable database dedicated to finding emotional, financial, and spiritual assistance for first responders. Tracks data on law enforcement suicide and provides crisis-specific resources. Founded in 2016 to raise awareness for law enforcement suicide, expanded in 2021 to support all first responders.

Code Green Campaign

Mental health advocacy and education organization for first responders. Shares real stories from responders to reduce stigma and normalize seeking help. Has distributed over 150,000 mental health resource cards nationwide.

Officer Safety & Wellness (DOJ)

Department of Justice resource hub with articles, research, toolkits, and links to officer wellness programs across the country. Comprehensive federal clearinghouse for law enforcement wellness information.
